Description

Moving On Skiffle’ finds Van Morrison taking a homemade style that exploded across Britain in the mid1950s and infusing it with a level of sophistication and soulfulness specifically his own.  The 23track album goes to the heart of the music Van Morrison grew up hearing & loving.

Van Morrison says, “I was still in school when I performed with a skiffle band a couple of guitars, washboard, teachest bass. I was already familiar with Lead Belly’s recordings so when I heard Lonnie Donegan’s version of ‘Rock Island Line’ I intuitively understood what he was creating,   I knew that it was what I wanted to do. It was like an explosion.”   This record is most definitely his take on some of his faves from that era.

Van’s voice remains a wonderful musical instrument. It’s rich and powerful & whilst deeper has hardly changed in decades.  And at this point, perhaps interpreting other writers songs with that amazing voice & band , can only be a very a good thing & gift to us all.

*It also contains songs that underline, in their messages  the importance of freedom and living on your own terms, his lifetime philosophy apparently ….
