Description

With 8 solo albums under his belt , and more producer credits than there’s room to mention, The Great Escape feels like a tip of the hat to the early influences that sparked Stamey’s musical career: the much loved & emulated Laurel Canyon sound that mixed rock & country with an emphasis on vocal harmonies.  To deliver this sound effectively, Stamey relies on the input of pedal steel guitarist Eric Heywood (Son Volt, Joe Henry), & amongst others, his db’s compatriot Peter Holsapple and Caitlin Cary on harmonies.

At the start of his career and post collaborations with Alex Chilton,  Chris formed the dB’s with Peter Holsapple. The dB’s made a brief but influential splash, and Holsapple went on to provide live concert support for R.E.M. and Hootie & the Blowfish, while contributing to the collaborative Continental Drifters.  Stamey continued making solo albums, producing bands like Yo La Tengo, and playing a supportive role live with folk like Bob Mould and Matthew Sweet.

**Rod & I have always been HUGE fans of CHRIS STAMEY & PETER HOLSAPPLE..and are LOVING this album.  It’s beautifully constructed, recorded, and has almost a Beach Boys orchestral feel with wonderful vocal harmonies.   Recommended listening!
