The Los Angeles singer/songwriter has hovered on the fringe of polite Americana circles since the early 2010s, parlaying her early years as a folk-punk busker into handsome, modest records often released on her own independent imprints.
This album marks a step into the big league as War joins the esteemed New West Record Label (home to Steve Earle, et al). Andrija Tokic, who made his reputation working with Alabama Shakes, assumes production duties performing a task similar to the one he did on his records with Hurray for the Riff Raff, both streamlining and opening up War’s music without sacrificing her eccentricities.
