Description

A career spanning over thirty years, the words and music of IAN BLAND are an intrinsic part of the fabric of Melbourne’s music scene. He has been playing and  recording his own unique brand of music in various guises since the late seventies, most recently with “The Lamington Drive Orchestra” a veritable who’s who of Melbourne musicians. Since 2007 Ian has penned and presented a poem each Sunday on “The JVG Radio Method” on Triple R, and has performed his poetry at venues as diverse as The National Gallery of Victoria, The Palais and recently as a spokesperson for saving live music in Melbourne, on the steps of Parliament House. His music blends a lifetime of musical influences including country, celtic, and folk with insightful stories drawn from contemporary rural and urban Australia, topics as  diverse as drought, lawyers and the demise of suburban pubs. He has an innate way of getting to the heart of the matter through his evocative songwriting and a way of connecting with the audience which is both disarming and captivating.
