Description
Recorded in a half-dozen locations from Berlin to Iowa City, Everything Sings Tonight speaks eloquently to travel and movement. Thorne’s languid guitar parts are galvanised throughout by the percussion work of regular collaborator Hamish Stuart – see the show-band wind-up of “The Rushing Dark”. “Everything Sings” features a reading from the singer’s poet father, alongside a recitation from The Waste Land. Thorne’s more ephemeral lyrics are frequently, exquisitely impressionistic (“Blackwing”). Her breathy, tremulous vocal delivery, though, sometimes makes the task of grasping their sense and shape like fishing gemstones from a drum of oil (“Lasseter’s Gold”).
