The 2020 reissue contains a new stereo mix of the entire album, as well as Stones rarities and alternative mixes from the scattered recording sessions. The studio album was recorded across Jamaica, the UK, and the USA due to the band’s status as tax exiles at the time.
When it was released in 1973 ‘Goats Head Soup’ was an immediate success and, driven by the haunting ballad ‘Angie’, it was their biggest commercial success to that date. However, following ‘Let It Bleed’, ‘Sticky Fingers’ and ‘Exile On Main St’, arguably one of the greatest runs of albums ever released by one act, it has become slightly lost to history despite its commercial success.
The Goats Head Soup 2020 reissue also boasts three previously unreleased tracks, Scarlet, All The Rage, and Criss-Cross. Scarlet was recorded way back in October of 1973, featuring none other than Jimmy Page on guitar. In a press release, the lost track has been described as “infectious and raunchy as anything the band cut in this hallowed era”. All The Rage is another new tune to feature on the 2020 deluxe edition of Goats Head Soup. It’s been described as “a wild, post-Brown Sugar strut,” according to a press release. Criss-Cross is the other unheard track to appear on the classic 1973 Rolling Stones album reissue.
