WOW….have just played this newie (to us) twice in a row! IT’s FANTASTIC…so chilled, funky, instantly familiar and yet inventive.
Roger, as many of you would know, is the long-serving bass player for STARS (one of our fave bands, of course!)….but this solo album could not be further from the work he does in that band. Whilst being the funky groove laden and rhythm base of that band…this is a totally different “ball game” and displays a whole other side to Roger’s musical prowess.
Featuring several esteemed Australian artists from the jazz field on a couple of tracks (TONY GOULD on piano, DAVEY JONES on drums, along with a couple of vocalists on 2 tracks) this is primarily a showcase of what Roger is about as a musician…..all original compositions, it’s not about flashy over the top bass thumping…it’s about true experimentation, fluidity, engagement and getting a groove happening. Think THE CRUSADERS and other exponents of classic funk of the 70’s….timeless et al. Seriously folks….give this album a go….we recommend it highly and you know we don’t do that unless we really really think it rates & is worthy of your attention!
