Former Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera has made a string of albums post-Roxy Music, however ‘The Sound Of Blue’ is definitely his most connected and likeable. From Electronic Beats to Proggy, Jerky Post-Punk, it covers a vast array of territory and summons up feelings of early Roxy Music and a sense of youthfulness. The album ends with a cover of Kanye West, Jay Z and Frank Ocean’s ‘No Church In The Wild’ which itself samples from Manzanera’s own song K-Scope.
