These days many veteran rock stars keep their musical legacies going with varying degrees of success. Manzanera’s work away from Roxy Music has always had a certain off-kilter lilt and sense of humor which keeps it fresh. Paired with a great band here, Phil has room to stretch and take his Roxy, Quiet Sun, 801 and solo material into new territories. This is a great sounding recording from an iconic musician who is still enjoying himself working with a great band. Phil is one of those few guitarists who can be recognized after playing a single note and has always been underrated. If the other Roxy musicians are similiarly energized, perhaps they have one more album or tour in them. If not, at least Phil keeps delivering the goods in his own way.
