Whether by chance or design, Nick Charles has come up with the ideal title for his latest record. There is a fine liquid quality to the music, the rippling notes cascading from the steel strings of his guitars and mandolins, drawn along by Louis Gill’s strong soulful bass undercurrents, and with surprising swirling eddies springing from Paul Jonas’ fiddle. The great Pete Fidler on dobro and electric lap steel adds depth and colour. Without torturing the metaphor any further, the music is a seamless blend of blues, country and folk, Charles and Jonas adding cool, steady vocals to some of the tracks. Pure pleasure.
