Even with all the experiments that Franti and co. have thrown at their ninth record – the exaggerated dancehall, the thick electronic beats, the sometimes bizarre laptop interjections – it’s still his presence that draws attention. He’s one of only a few who could carry a song titled “We Are All Earthlings”, with its outrageous banging chorus and repeated joyful mantras, just as it’s impossible not to smile as he bounces through the playful roots reggae of “My Favourite Wine Is Tequila”.
