In 2017, Jason Isbell (of the Drive-By Truckers) and his trusty band, the 400 Unit, played six sold-out shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium – “the cathedral of country music”, which is where most of Live from the Ryman was recorded. These recordings add up to a kind of live greatest-hits, a collection wrought from exacting attention to writing craft and the sort of soul-searching that couldn’t have always been comfortable.
