Lesser Oceans benefits the most from its stellar producers. Fences are good, their songs are clever and catchy and floaty and living in the space that Mansions and Jack’s Mannequin and The Postal Service have all passed through at one point or another, but with production skills from the likes of Death Cab’s Walla, Jacquire King (Of Monsters And Men) and Ryan Lewis, Lesser Oceans is raised from being yet another pretty indie record to being a truly great album that can hold its own in a heavily over-burdened genre.
