Description

“I make rock n roll records,” the American writer and performer JJ Cale once sang. An originator of the Tulsa Sound – lithe blues and electric country – Cale’s career was defined commercially by Eric Clapton when he turned two of his compositions, After Midnight and Cocaine, into hit singles. Neither song is on this post-humous tribute to Cale, who died in July last year, as a respectful Clapton digs deeper into his songbook. The likes of Willie Nelson add dry character to the likes of Songbird and the evocative Starbound, while Clapton’s take on Cajun Moon is a highlight.
