Mr Wilson is heading down the dusty beaten trail of bluesy roots rock, and thank the lord for it. This is not dissimilar to Dylan’s last couple of albums musically, but gets pretty tastefully country flavoured at times. Laidback and beautifully played, with a whole bunch of familiar phrases plucked out of the past and re-invented like all great folk songs are. (There’s also Chris Wilson’s answer to Robert Johnson’s ‘If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day’). An essential part of any collection of this legendary musician.
