Bob Dylan’s “Bootleg Series” of archival releases recently passed its 30th anniversary without any set yet dedicated solely to his work in the 1980s. The first half of that decade gets its due, finally, with the upcoming release of a 5-CD set that collects outtakes, alternate versions and live or rehearsal tracks from the eras of his “Infidels,” “Empire Burlesque” and “Shot of Love” albums.
Titled “Springtime in New York: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 16 (1980-1985)” — and complete with classic unbuttoned-shirt imagery from the era!! — it’s due out Sept. 17.
This new set focuses on the three albums of the era: Shot of Love (1981) Infidels and Empire Burlesque and contains previously unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances and more.
The deluxe 5CD edition of the album presents 57 rare Bob Dylan recordings, 54 of them previously unreleased in any format
