Almost exactly one year after the Black Keys released their last album Delta Kream, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney will release a new one. Dropout Boogie is out May 13 via Nonesuch. The album features collaborations with ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, Reigning Sound and Oblivians’ Greg Cartwright, and Angelo Petraglia. “I knew Pat would love working with these guys, so we decided to give it a shot. It was the first time we’d ever done that. It was fun as hell. We just sat around a table with acoustic guitars and worked out the song ahead of time”, says Dan.

The new album captures a few first takes that are reminiscent of the stripped-down blues-rock of the band’s earlier days when making music together. The album drops one day before the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut LP, The Big Come Up.

Auerbach said, “It’s the natural chemistry Pat and I have. Being in a band this long is a testament to that. It was a real gift we were given. I mean, the odds of being plopped down a block and a half from each other in Akron, Ohio—it just seems crazy.”
