Description

The posthumous live release Amy Winehouse at the BBC, first issued in 2012, returns as a 3-CD or 3-LP expanded edition.  This presentation brings together her earliest BBC Radio sessions, music from her first television appearances, and more.  It features the original album on one disc plus A Tribute to Amy Winehouse by Jools Holland on Disc Two and BBC One Sessions Live at Porchester Hall on Disc Three.

Amy Winehouse at the BBC compiled fourteen tracks recorded between 2004 and 2009 including renditions of “Rehab,” “Tears Dry on Their Own,” and “Valerie,” as well as covers of pop and jazz standards such as “To Know Him Is to Love Him” and “Lullaby of Birdland.”  The newly-compiled A Tribute to Amy Winehouse by Jools Holland draws on Winehouse’s performances between 2003 and 2007 for and with the British bandleader/Squeeze co-founder/pianist/host of BBC Two’s late-night show Later…with Jools Holland.  Four Later performances are included on the 10-track disc as well as cuts from Holland’s annual New Year’s show Hootenanny (among them Amy’s duets with Paul Weller on “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “Don’t Go to Strangers”) and the 2004 and 2007 Mercury Prize ceremonies in which Winehouse’s Frank and Back to Black, respectively, were up for the award.  The third and final disc of this collection, BBC One Sessions Live at Porchester Hall, boasts fourteen tracks recorded in 2007 at the Bayswater venue.  What a tragic loss – so young – of such a major talent.  This is a fitting tribute compilation showcasing just what an amazing talent she was.
