Comprising a mixture of well chosen covers and well written new material, ‘Frettening Behaviour’ is the latest album from legendary guitarist Albert Lee. Released to coincide with his 70th(!) birthday celebrations, Lee proves here that he’s as top class as ever and brings with him an all-star country band to get the message across.
Opening with a by turns contemplative and thumping take on Greenday’s ‘Time of Your Life’, the album grows from there, showcasing the country licks Lee has become known for over his long career. His speed of playing in the solo sections is still startling, and though he doesn’t provide vocals on all the songs here his is still a recognisable and welcome sound.
Infused throughout with the country-roots aspects you would expect, tracks such as ‘Showdown’, replete with slide guitar and lovely harmonies, are those that perhaps best sum up the approach. This is unashamedly an album of its genre – both in its new material and with its fresh take on old rock and country songs alike.
