When they are not on duty with STARS, Mick Pealing and Nick Charles often perform around the traps in Melbourne as an acoustic duo, delivering a set of appealing roots/blues songs with two distinct qualities many of their peers lack. Nick Charles’ expression, fluidity and feel as a guitar player has seen him revered by the roots rock fraternity in this country for over 25 years. He has several solo albums and US tours under his belt and his music is deserving of far more success. Mick Pealing is quite rightly regarded as one of the very best vocalists in Australia, and has been for decades.
Combined, Pealing and Charles are a force to be reckoned with. Sublimely arranged & beautifully recorded with echoing guitars that slide behind bold strong vocals, this debut is stunning. Part roots/folk – part early 70s California country/roots, the songs hold the listener with strong melodic lines and reflective themes. The truth is always there if you look for it. Forget the Americana songbook. Pealing and Charles are writing their own.
