Seven years before the Bringing Them Home report told the story of the Stolen Generations, a seminal Australian album told it in song.Recorded in 1990, the album was the solo debut of Indigenous singer/songwriter Archie Roach, who at the time was 34 years old. Australian government agencies forcibly took Roach from his family when he was three. The first single from the album, Took The Children Away, told that story at a time when many Australians were unaware of this chapter of their nation’s history.
