Avett and Mayfield pay tribute to the late, great Elliott Smith with this collection of his songs. More an attempt to honour his memory than to reimagine his works, it is still a great presentation of Smith’s heart-wrenching and overawing songwriting styles. And, though sometimes these styles fall outside of Avett and Mayfield’s comfort zones, the duo renders each faithfully and gently.
