Steve Earle & The Dukes release their highly anticipated new album ‘Terraplane,’ via New West Records. The album is Earle’s 16th studio release but, for the man recognised as a prime mover in both country and Americana circles over the past few decades, it is also a first; his first blues album.
‘Terraplane’ takes its title from the 1930’s Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit model, which also inspired the Robert Johnson song “Terraplane Blues,” which was recorded during Johnson’s first recording session in San Antonio, Texas.
Earle, who was raised outside of San Antonio before migrating to Houston, cut his teeth on a local scene steeped in blues: “There was Fort Worth where the model was Freddy King, and there was the Houston scene which was dominated by Lightnin’ Hopkins. Two very different styles.” He saw both of these giants, and was also exposed to Johnny Winter, Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Billy Gibbons, all of whom make their influence heard here within Earle’s masterful song writing and The Dukes’ ragged but right performance.
This deluxe version of the album includes a bonus DVD with 24-bit high-res audio version of the album, as well as a long form interview between Earle and acclaimed journalist Mark Jacobson. Also featured are three live, acoustic songs filmed on the porch of House of Blues Studio D, and behind-the-scenes short film about the making of the album.
