Description
Stripped-back Americana from John Fullbright.
John Fullbright’s 2013 debut, From the Ground Up, earned a Grammy nomination for best Americana album. It’s follow-up deserves to do at least as well. With its 12 hushed and intimate tracks stripped back to the bare essentials – often just Fullbright’s voice and guitar – the emphasis is on the strength of the songwriting (and, on Write a Song, the process itself). At their best, his carefully sketched vignettes resemble those of Richmond Fontaine’s Willy Vlautin, particularly High Road, a heartbreaking tale of lovers torn apart by – spoiler alert! – an overturned tractor.
